“Ever since the release of my new novel, its just been hectic, book signings after signings, different types of appearances, its been hectic, but very enlightening, and with developments such as the literary festival, it really gives me a different kind of energy,” states dancehall recording artiste, actress and author, Macka Diamond, who was recently added to the line up at the Anuual Antigua and Barbuda International Literary Festival.
Slated to be held on the island of Antigua from November 4 to 7, apart from merely being a part of the festival, Macka will also be an integral part of what is dubbed youth day, where writers from various secondary schools across the island will get a chance to interact and learn from Macka and other internationally renowned authors, including the likes of Zee Edgell, author of Beka Lamb, a book used throughout all our local high schools in preparation for CXCs, and the likes of actress and now author, Pam Grier, who starred in film’s such as the Quentin Tarantino blockbuster, Jackie Brown, alongside Samuel L Jackson.
So how does Macka feel about being in the company of these luminaries?
“Fabulous, I couldn’t even believe it at first, but trust me, it’s a good feeling. I said I was going to do this and it really feels good to know that I can also achieve in other areas besides the dancehall, not that I doubted myself, but it feels good to see it come to life,” declares Macka with glee.
“I mean,” she continues, “all our signings have been great, from the launch in Florida to New York, to New Jersey, to Washington, to Virginia, Connecticut, Guyana, Canada, trust me, we have been all over with this book, and the reception has been great, so with an invite like this to the literary festival, trust me, it feels good, really good.”
So what next should we expect from the lady who has now proven that she is indeed, multitalented?
“New video for ‘Cyaa talk to mi,’ pon di Genius big riddim, we will be in Dominica next month with Gyptian, we’re heading back to Canada, and we’re in some European negotiations, more book signings, more appearances, and while we’re doing all that we’re working at something else to keep my readers happy.”
