Coppershot Disco is seen as the next step in entertainment having been performing their art for over twelve years and consistently being on top of the game. Founded in 1994 through a merger with Sage Enterprises, Coppershot boasts an impressive and energetic crew of hardcore music-loving Jamaicans. Over the years this sound has been tested, tried and proven true, building a strong following in Kingston and the whole of Jamaica. Despite having been dubbed an ‘uptown sound’ Coppershot has proven they have the ingenuity and the right flavor for all crowds.
Having started from the aspirations of three young Campionites -- Matthew Gray, Jason Henriques and Shaun Anderson -- Coppershot has since grown into an enterprise. They have expanded to ten members adding a variety of styles and enabling them to widen their scope to extensive play outs. The members include top selectors such as Jigzagula AKA Jay-Z, Nero P, Mr. Shaun, DJ Donny, DJ Friji, DJ Small Voice, DJ Cut-eye, DJ Stylez, DJ Cutty and DJ MC. The Coppershot name is so popular that if one looks at all the hottest party posters one will no doubt find their distinctive logo as the stand out selectors.
The sound is known for their versatility, playing at all kinds of events from birthday parties, weddings, stage shows, clubs, parties and more. Always holding true to their word and professional standards, the sound has been enlisted by all the major corporate sponsors to play for their events. These include recurring jobs with Digicel, Red Stripe, Bmobile, Appleton and Smirnoff Ice. From the sound’s inception its talented crew have been consistently working alongside other popular sounds such as Stone Love, Tony Matterhorn, Fire Links, Bass Odyssey and Renaissance; proving themselves on par in the entertainment business.
The sound has also become a crowd favorite, having patrons dancing to the hardcore juggling on the wheels of steel. Their style consists of distinguished remixes, entertaining dubs, unique mixing, scratching and original jams of roots reggae, pop, soca, dancehall, hip hop, reggaeton and R&B. With such a distinctive name and raw talent, they have attracted overwhelming media attention and the support of artistes alike. Famed deejay Bounty Killer has since become an ardent fan and contributor to the sound’s record box. Understandably Coppershot now boasts several dubs from Bounty Killer, Spragga Benz, Sean Paul, Buju Banton, Vybz Kartel, Sizzla, Capleton, Rihanna, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Baby Cham, Assassin, Wayne Marshal and every other top Deejay in the game. With such an arsenal, its no surprise that their mix CDs have become world renowned. The “Welcome to Jamrock” culture mix was sought out all over the world and the follow-up series have proven to be just as popular. Their dancehall mixes have been seen at cassette vendors all over Jamaica, the United States, England Europe and Japan. In December 2008, Coppershot created history by becoming the second ever Jamaican entertainer to perform in Qatar and Bahrain (the first Being Sean Paul) and the first ever dancehall sound to tour the States of the Middle East where they were met with much love, and aside from world favorites Bob Marley and Sean Paul, were able to introduce a lot of other Jamaican stars to the people and open up the doors for future sounds and artists to perform.
Their commitment, talent, enthusiasm, and determination have launched them unto the International scene. They have played to packed arenas and parties all over the world. They have ventured to the United States, Europe, Japan and other Caribbean islands. Coppershot members have also been on tour with major artistes such as Sean Paul and Baby Cham; without a doubt taking the art of selecting to never before seen heights. Being on this level provides a welcome challenge to remain on the leading edge of progressive entertainment.
As such the Coppershot label expanded to a production company in February of 2006 known as Coppershot Music. They have since produced two of the hottest riddims: ‘No Tampering’ and ‘Full Clip’ and more recently they had out “the set up riddim” which spawned the hits as “Backshot Time” from charley Blackz, “Screechie” by QQ and the bonafide number 1 hit on Japan charts “Japanese Dance (Oh Papi)” by Sound members Cutty & Nero–P also featuring Patexx . The Miniskirt riddim which had the hottest song for summer of 2008 going right back into 2008 “Whine Pon di double” by Tony Matterhorn & “Dugu Dugu” by Vybz Kartel & “She Love The Ras” By Zebra. Coppershot has also created the anthem for 2009 with Charley Blackz song “Next year nah pass“. Coppershot has undertaken the music production on a serious level and looks to release lots of new productions.
