There is absolutely nothing that the artiste Baby Tash enjoys more than performing on stage. And, everyone who knows her concludes impartially that it’s something at which she excels. An unmatched veteran when it comes to entering competitions, Baby Tash has made a lasting impact on every major competition held in the performing arts — from Festival to Tastee Talent Contest to Digicel Rising Stars — and also Dancing Dynamites. “It didn’t matter whether I placed first or not,” an enthusiastic Baby Tash says. “I just love contests and the euphoria of being on stage,” she explains. Add to that the encouragement that she has received from her family and friends who, having witnessed her talent, are among her biggest fans. “My mother, my grandmother and siblings are always there for me,” a confident Baby Tash — the eldest in her family, yet on whom the moniker ‘Baby’ is placed — asserts confidently. It was in the year 2008 that this young lady, who hails from Spanish Town, really signaled that she was ready for stardom and eager to claim what was truly hers. Baby Tash was catapulted into the spotlight when she emerged winner of the Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall competition. It was the start of an exciting journey of exploration and discovery in the music industry. She gave up her job at Sandals Montego Bay in order to focus on her blossoming career. A graduate of the Jonathan Grant High School, where she was prefect, deputy head girl and Student Council President, Tashon — as she was christened — is finally living her dream. Recently signed to Khool International/Yellow Moon, who is doing her bookings and PR, the artiste says she is ready to embrace all opportunities to further and fast-track her career. Taking advantage of the attention she received during the competition, Baby Tash is steadily building her fan base and has made that vital link with reggae/dancehall’s top producers. Her single Mix Up was produced by the experienced Scatta Burrell, while the video was directed by highly sought-after, award-winning director, Jay Will. It was among the nominees for the coveted Hype TV Video of the Year Award for 2008. Among the other producers with whom she is working are Ward 21, Muzik Factory, Solid Agency. Baby Tash has done memorable stints on such shows as Manchester Fiesta, GT Taylor Christmas Extravaganza, Stone Love Anniversary, Mavado’s Album Launch and Birthday Bash and Fully Loaded. Baby Tash is emphatic in her assertion that as an artiste she will not be ‘boxed’ into any one genre and is eager and ready to share her positive messages across musical lines. “Dancehall is all about being creative; we have to mix up the thing and ensure that the crossover appeal is there,” she says soberly. Baby Tash is definitely ready to push the envelope take over the musical world.
